AMD May Launch Ryzen 3 or Athlon for Under $100 on AM5

AMD may finally be paying attention to the entry-level processor segment for its AM5 platform. According to rumors, the company is expected to bring back a Ryzen 3 or Athlon manufactured on 7nm for prices below US$ 100.

The information comes from Bits & Chips, which unfortunately doesn’t delve into details beyond these. So we can only speculate around this initial rumor.

The current-generation Zen 5 cores are manufactured on 4nm, while the 7nm process was used in Zen 2 and Zen 3. This means that it is a more “mature” lithography, which generally results in better utilization in chip production. In turn, this results in savings for the company and lower prices for the final product.

The folks at WCCFTech go a step further in their futurology exercise and try to speculate how many cores we can expect in a Ryzen 3 or Athlon for AM5. Since the lowest configuration of the Ryzen 9000 will bring 6 cores, we could expect a Ryzen 3 with 4, or an Athlon with even less, just 2.

Being optimistic, the site raises the possibility of seeing 6 cores in this mysterious entry-level CPU, since it will use a currently cheaper process. In any case, at the moment we only have speculation.

Ryzen 9000 on July 31st

AMD has finally officially confirmed that its new generation of Ryzen processors will arrive on July 31st. It is not expected, however, that we will have information about a possible new budget CPU at this time.

The manufacturer should first launch the already known Ryzen 9, 7 and 5. Since we are only now hearing about a possible more entry-level option for the AM5 platform, it is most likely that we will only see official news about this component later. Even more so if we are actually talking about an Athlon.
