Since the arrival of Arc Alchemist graphics cards two years ago, Intel has been optimizing its drivers so that more games can be in a playable state with its GPUs. Now, A test involving 250 games shows that 16 of them are not yet playable, and some are even modern.

The test is from the Hardware Unboxed channel and the video card used was the Arc A770, top of the line in the series, with the latest Intel video driver. Along with the GPU was the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, considered the king of games today.

The criteria for testing are: the game launches without any issues, the game loads to gameplay, the game launches without any additional adjustments, the game runs without any visual artifacts, and the framerate is playable above 40 FPS up to a consistent 60 FPS. All games were run at 1440p.

Arc A770 can do well in many games

Overall, 233 games ran above 40 FPS and 218 of them ran without any problems. Among those that did not run well (did not open or ran with problems), there were 12 games, in addition to 4 that did not open, among them Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, a game released in December of last year.

Of the 218 games that ran well, 86 games ran at the maximum preset and 54 at ultra or similar (such as very high) at high frame rates. Of the total, 26 games required upscaling regardless of the preset used. Games like Horizon Forbidden West and Immortals of Aveum used medium presets.

The Arc A770’s performance fell below 60 FPS in heavy games using the lowest graphics preset and performance upscaling, such as The Last of Us, Alan Wake 2 and Hellblade 2. In Dragon’s Dogma 2, it delivered a very inconsistent experience. These are all modern and heavy games, but even in light games like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the Intel GPU did not perform well.

The Hardware Unboxed video also shows some gameplay clips from games that ran well, games that required specific adjustments, and games that didn’t even open or ran with visual artifacts. The channel makes it clear that in games where the Intel GPU didn’t run well, the RX 6650 XT, one of its rivals, had no difficulty whatsoever.

The situation for Intel Arc GPUs is already much better compared to their launch, but it is still far from ideal if we consider that the Arc A770 GPU competes against cards like the RTX 3060 Ti and RX 6650 XT, which deliver literally impeccable results in any game.
