Still one of Intel’s best recent processors, the Core i9-12900KS, top of the line of the Alder Lake generation, is being discontinued. In addition to this, the company is also discontinuing dozens of other processorsespecially those that are part of the 10th generation (Comet Lake) of CPUs.
Intel’s notice of the discontinuation was published on the first day of this month. However, the discontinuation of the Core i9-12900KS will not be immediate, as the company will stop fulfilling new orders for this CPU in January 2025 and only in July of next year will it be discontinued for good.
Compared to its base version, the top-of-the-line Alder Lake model has higher frequencies, especially at the maximum boost which is 300 MHz higher, reaching 5.5 GHz, a very high clock for its launch time (2021).
As Videocardz rightly points out, the Intel Core i9-12900KS has been replaced by the i7-13700K, which also has the same 16 cores and 24 threads, although frequencies are around 100 MHz lower. Its successor, the i9-13900KS, arrived with much more robust configurations.

Intel had already discontinued the 10th generation K series of processors previously. In addition to this generation, Rocket Lake (11th generation) had also been discontinued. Therefore, the company’s focus is now on Raptor Lake onwards.
