Micron is touting that its new GDDR7 memory, which will be equipped in the next generation of NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, will bring 30% better gaming performance.
According to slides discovered by user “Harukaze5719“, the corporation points out that this jump in FPS (frames per second) is in comparison to its GDDR6 counterpart – with tests being carried out on titles with ray tracing and purely rasterized.
Despite the revelation, Micron did not reveal what benchmarks were used to achieve the 30% – despite the impressive number. This improvement will only be seen in the 32Gb/s version of the GDDR7 modules and were compared with the 20Gb/s GDDR6.

Even without verifying the numbers, there is a basis that allows us to trust the results presented. The GDDR7 memories they are producing have 60% more bandwidth and 50% more energy efficiency, compared to the previous generation.
Additionally, Micron also announced that the response time of its 32Gb/s GDDR7 modules has been reduced by 20% – which will help upcoming GPUs deliver even better results with machine learning and generative artificial intelligence.
Micron’s GDDR7 results
Even without a direct comparison with GDDR6X modules, Micron’s GDDR7 modules feature 10Gb/s more and can reach a bandwidth of 1.5TB/s (with 12 ICs connected to a 384-bit interface). With the same configuration, but with 21Gbps GDDR6X, a GeForce RTX 4090 reaches only 1,008TB/s.
Although it is striking, it is important that you do not take these results as definitive and that they would certainly come to NVIDIA “Blackwell” GeForce RTX 50 GPUs in the near future. In addition to not knowing whether Micron will supply GDDR7 memories to this and other manufacturers, there are still a number of possibilities.
One of them, as you might have guessed, is that NVIDIA will inevitably cut bus widths on most of its upcoming graphics cards. In other words, while we’ll have a 384-bit interface on the GeForce RTX 5090, we won’t see the same on the rest of the line – which will significantly reduce this 30% performance improvement.
