Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processor is already among us and initial benchmarks indicate that the new chip does not perform well in single-core tests, when compared to Apple’s M3. Furthermore, its energy efficiency is also below expectations.
According to the numbers presented on Geekbench, the CPU equipped in the new Microsoft Surface Pro reached 2,837 points in single-core, while it achieved a result of 14,398 in multi-core tests. The MacBook Air’s M3 has 3,000 points in single-core, despite being below in multi-core with a result of 12,000 (20% lower).

To discuss energy consumption efficiency, it will obviously depend on the device and chip model being used. The Snapdragon X Elite 78 was submitted to Cinebench and consumed 14 W during testing, which puts Qualcomm’s CPU above the 10 W that the M3 consumes.
It is important to mention that, although Qualcomm and Microsoft highlight the new processor compared to Apple’s M3, the chip launched in 2023 already has a replacement: the M4, which is already available in the iPad Pro and will reach the corporation’s PCs and notebooks later. in 2024.
In other words, even if the “Copilot+ PCs” with Snapdragon 200V.
Testes no Snapdragon X Elite
With the launch of “Copilot+” devices by Microsoft, several tests were carried out on the Snapdragon X Elite and show that its performance really achieves good results, but not the technological leap promised by the marketing campaign of both.
The processor remains balanced with what we have available with Apple’s M3, but the same cannot be said about the Adreno GPU in gaming. Tests revealed with the ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED Snapdragon show that it remains below what Intel brought in the 13th Generation – with many games not even starting via emulation on ARM.
A step forward
The tests reveal that Microsoft has finally managed to reduce its distance from Apple, with the Snapdragon X Elite processors – produced on ARM – bringing performance that comes very close to what Apple has been working on recently.
Although a little lower than expected, Copilot+ PCs put Windows back in a competitive position against the competition – at least in the notebook scenario.
However, there is still a lot to be seen from the Snapdragon X Elite CPUs and the partnership between Qualcomm and Microsoft. One of the main features of Copilot+ PCs, Recall, is not available at the launch of the line and the others do not demonstrate a real impact of the devices in relation to artificial intelligence yet.
