Intel is preparing a refresh of its Arrow Lake line of processors. While a modest increase in the hardware of the new CPUs is expected, a leak of the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus on PassMark shows that the line may have a lot of performance potential.

The Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus should arrive as the most advanced processor among the Arrow Lake Refresh models, and its leak in the PassMark test shows the new CPU scoring 66,203 points. These are respectable numbers for a notebook component, placing it close to the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, an unlocked model for desktops.

As the screenshot above shows, the result also puts the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus ahead of the Core Ultra 9 285HX, with around 7.5% more PassMark points.

The leak also reveals some details about the processor and the notebook in which it would supposedly be installed. The model appears with a boost clock of up to 5.45GHz, and would be running on an MSI notebook with 32GB of DDR5-5600 memory. The device also has a dedicated RTX 5090.

There are months left until the arrival of the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus

It’s always interesting to remember that benchmark leaks like this are not enough to evaluate the performance of future processors like the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus. We need more results in different configurations and, especially, with appropriate drivers that only appear closer to launch.

And that launch is still some way off. There are expectations that Intel should present the Arrow Lake Refresh within two or three months, so we can still expect many more leaks until then.

As mentioned, a considerable leap in terms of hardware is not expected in the Arrow Lake Refresh line. The 290HX Plus model, which appears in the current leak, should maintain the 24 cores of the 285HX, 8 of which are performance cores and 16 efficiency cores.
