The growing market for portable PC gaming devices has more and more brands involved, which raised the question whether Gigabyte had plans to try to offer a product in the area as well. Unsurprisingly, the answer is yes, but no, the company first needs to find a way to stand out in the segment.
The information comes from Eddie Lin, none other than the CEO of Gigabyte. He spoke about the subject during an interview with PCWorld, still in the middle of CES 2026.
“Building a portable gaming device is not difficult. You see many Chinese manufacturers doing it already,” said the executive. “The most important part is to have a model, or a base design to start with. With a similar model, building the product itself shouldn’t be a problem. The goal is to meet demand.”
While declaring that it is easy to create a laptop, the head of Gigabyte explains that the company has not yet presented its own device because it is looking for something to differentiate itself.
“The real question is differentiation. What can we do that is different? That’s the main thing to think about,” explains the CEO. “Gigabyte is also thinking about making a portable gaming device, but the focus is on how to make it stand out.”
Gigabyte may not have many paths to follow
With the number of portable devices currently available, it may be difficult for Gigabyte to find an authentic path. From affordable to super premium devices, from simple proposals to diverse accessories and modularity, we have examples in different formats.
