The 8K Association discovered a computer capable of playing 8k at 120Hz games in HDMI 2.1. The original specification is notoriously limited to 8K to 60Hz, but the display flow compression allowed them to overcome this limitation.
The PC was fully equipped with AMD hardware and rolled the game Horizon Forbidden West from Guerrillawith the title being chosen for being well optimized. The association found the machine at the beginning of April, during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2025 in Las Vegas.

Operation Information
The machine was to maintain and used a CPU AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D e uma GPU AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT. The game was running through Steam, which allows analysis of analysis and confirmation of the operation by 120 Hz.
The title was rendered in 5K and was then upscale internally using AMD ML -based FidelityFX technology. Following, the signal was sent to a Modified Neo QLED TV with low latency automatic mode (ALLM), Variable Update Rate (VRR) and Freesync Premium Pro.
The shipping form was via HDMI 2.1B with DSC support. The impressive and soft graphics attracted a lot of attention from visitors, especially those who already knew the game.
Availability for the general public?
For the general public, playing in 8k is still far from being a reality, especially when some PC games have performance problems even at much lower resolutions.
However, Nvidia and AMD’s latest GPUs make the experience more manageable than ever with Nvidia DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation and AMD FSR 4 Frame Generation.
Titles such as Kingdom Come: Warhorse Deliverance 2 have already appeared running in gameplay rates even with 16K resolution using a GeForce RTX 5090. And the feat was obtained without using frame generation, which is not supported by the game.
With the HDMI 2.2 specification announced at CES 2025 and its official launch scheduled for the end of the year, 8K monitors will probably become more common thanks to double bandwidth (96 Gbps).
However, until it is common for the general public, it should still take years. 8K games will need to be accessible in both hardware and software.
