ZaReason's Open Hardware Warranty

Better than your standard warranty

ZaReason gives you an industry standard warranty: 1 year free and you can purchase either a 2 or 3 year upgrade to continue that warranty. Here is the legalese:

ZaReason grants you, the purchaser, a one-year limited warranty in hardware defects. We do not warranty the software or problems that arise with your system due to accident, misuse, improper usage of the system and its components, or user error. If this product proves defective, ZaReason, at its option, will (a) repair the product, (b) replace the product, or (c) refund the purchase price of the product, provided that the product has been returned according to procedure.

As a caveat, we added a first-of-its-kind Open Hardware Warranty. We actually encourage you to lift the lid and see what makes your system do the wonderful things it does. It is your system after all and we want knowledgeable users, not dependent users.

 
We keep it simple. If you break something, order a replacement. If you think a piece of hardware is faulty, send it in. (Please see the ZaReason Warranty and Returns page for details.)

What does this Open Hardware Warranty do for you?

1. To start, you get a system that just works .
2. As hardware improves with time (and you know it improves fast) you can swap out video cards, sound cards, network cards, whatever fits and whatever works. It's brilliant – your system will last much longer if you can upgrade it as you go. It reduces e-waste and saves your pocketbook.
3. It allows you to switch distros – now that's freedom! When we say we're not proprietary, we really mean it. If for whatever reason you wish to switch to a different distro, but need to swap out a component in order to make it work, great. We won't lock you in.

The Za warranty gives you the best of both worlds – a solid system that works well out of the box along with the freedom to tweak your system to your heart's desire. The Open Hardware Warranty was inspired by the Make motto: If you can't open it, you don't own it but if you want us to service it like you're accustomed to, that's ok too.

To bring this point home, we send you a little screwdriver with your new system. You don't have to open up your smooth new system that comes nicely packaged from our little shop in Berkeley, but just the thought that you can open it... well, that's what this is all about.
