  I'm a theoretical ecologist. I need a machine that is portable, lightweight and reliable, but also has the power for heavy multi-tasking, running large mathematical simulations or render intensive graphics across multiple monitors.
  
  I need to be able to work very closely with both computer experts to computer luddites, and each feels equally at home with the eye-catching & intuitive interface and powerful linux kernel behind it.

  I'm a software engineer and system administrator, working with bioinformatics. I needed a machine that can multitask, run parallel jobs, and have enough memory and CPU power to run multiple virtual machines. The Strata 6880 i7, 8GiB RAM, and Nvidia graphics handles the workload without a strain. OK, it's a laptop, but it is "always on" when at home. Getting a custom machine for Linux without having to repartition and load from scratch and fight with drivers was a real boon.

  I'm a TV technician and I have the ZaReason Strata model from a year ago. I changed the distro from Ubuntu to Xubuntu about 6 months ago, but this laptop has been rock solid since I got it. This Strata has a ATI mobility graphics card and handles HD video playback and video editing smoothly. I also use it to record HD TV shows and movies from my cable box using Freevo controlling a Hauppauge HD PVR. This is not a dual boot, I run nothing but Linux on it and love the rock solid performance and tons of open source software to do anything I need to do.
